Singapore vs. Thailand and school

The Singapore-Thai soccer match at the ASEAN cup finals received pretty good media coverage here as well as in Thailand. I don't exactly remember when people were this hyped up about Singapore soccer. Maybe during the Malaysia cup days. However, Singaporeans' interest in local soccer just simply dwindled away, and media coverage just grew less and less.

Maybe its because of the political tension between the two countries that has caused such a stir among Singaporeans and Thais alike. People wanted to watch some action. And they got it. The Thais walked out for 15 minutes of the game and the Thai papers slammed Singapore and Malaysia for the Thai defeat.

I expected a big hoo-haa on Sunday night when our Lions went to Bangkok to play the final match. Security was tight. Then I saw the number of people wearing yellow coloured t-shirts (King's colour) and I sympathised the handful of people in red (Singapore's colour).

Yep. Thailand booed. But who can blame them? We booed them too.

But what actually surprised me was that they actually kept very very silent when our national anthem was played. I hadn't expected such curtesy, and frankly speaking, I was a little impressed. Of course when I read the Straits Times, I also realised the Thais actually stood up then. I'm more impressed.

What also struck me was the unity of Thais. Yellow-shirted and a loud roar of the Thai national anthem.

Win or lose, they deserve a thumbs-up. Honestly.

We are well into the semester here in school. I guess the stress is growing now. I can feel it. Essays are piling up. I have a french test this Friday (which I haven't started revising for). Presentations are coming. Like soon. I have to organize the career talk.

What am I suppose to do? Work is piling up.
